There are many ways to tell if you have found a good host. First, make sure that they offer enough disk space for your website, and that they are giving you enough space to host other sites. They also should offer at least 0.5-5 gigabytes of bandwidth, so that you don't have to worry about your site being shut down. Lastly, you should have a good amount of e-mails (5-100) and around (25-100) FTP accounts. You should never pay $10 then for hosting! Some really good hosts are Dreamhost and Freehostia, for they offer the most professional/cheap hosting on the web.
